Hurricane Lane Downgraded To Category 3, Hawaiians Urged To Stay Alert
Lane was a Category 5...and while he's a Cat 3 now - he's still packing a wallop
Emergency officials in Hawaii say Hurricane Lane remains a dangerous storm even as it continues to weaken. The Big Island of Hawaii is now under a tropical storm warning as Hurricane Lane bears down on the state in ‘category 3’ form.
The Big Island had been under a hurricane warning – and Oahu and Kauai are still under that order. So far, however, the Big Island has already been hit with 20-inches of rain in some parts.
As for Hurricane Lane’s strength, a category three storm packs winds of 120-miles-per-hour. It’s also expected to pass dangerously close to the islands today and over the weekend. In the meantime, Hawaii Governor David Ige[[EE-gay]] has urged residents to stay alert and seek shelter as needed.
