Miami, FL - Authorities are investigating a suspicious package found Wednesday night in a parking garage in downtown Miami, prompting road closures and heightened safety measures.

The City of Miami Police temporarily closed vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Northeast First to Second Avenues and between Northeast Seventh and Eighth Streets as the Miami Police Bomb Squad assessed the situation.

Residents near the area were advised to stay indoors, and the public was urged to avoid the vicinity until further notice.

Several residents were seen waiting behind police tape, unable to access their homes.

Bezel Apartments, located near the scene, informed residents of the investigation via text, stating that all four elevators in the building had been parked at the lobby level as a precaution.

Residents were instructed to use staircases if leaving the building and to avoid the garage until authorities resolved the situation.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will keep you updated,” the management message read.

No details about the suspicious package or its contents have been released.

Investigators remained on the scene as of Wednesday night.
