Third Autistic Child Found Dead from Downing in Central Florida this Month

(Deltona, FL) -- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says the body of a 7-year-old child with autism has been found.

VCSO says Charlie Newton, who is non-verbal and wandered away from his Deltona home last night, was recovered from a body of water.

This is the third death of an autistic child after two other children went missing in Central Florida and were later found dead.

According to officials, the Charlie wandered away from his home Monday night on Stillwater Avenue.

"We are saddened to report that we have recovered Charlie’s body from the water. This is the tragic outcome we all worked so hard hoping would not come to pass. We appreciate all the shares, the community support and the assistance from all our partner agencies in this effort," VCSO said in a statement.

Charlie's death comes just after two other children went missing in Central Florida and were later found dead.

4-year-old Waylon Childs wandered away from his father at an Ormond Beach Park and was later found dead in a body of water.

5-year-old Arturo Angarita wandered away from his family at a Kissimmee the park and was later rescued by paramedics from a water-filled drainage ditch. The young boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
