Florida Democrats Plan End Run Around State to Get Medicaid Expansion

TAMPA -- Florida Democrats have failed again and again through the legislative process to get Medicaid expansion in Florida. But one member of their congressional delegation is working on a way to bypass state lawmakers in the Republican-controlled state House and Senate.

Tampa's Kathy Castor is backing the Medicaid Saves Lives act, which includes provisions to expand coverage in those states, including Florida, which have rejected Medicaid expansion.

Castor says that they have a backup plan to include the act in budget reconciliation, which would prevent a filibuster.

The bill would shift to 100 percent federal support in those states, including Florida, that have rejected expanding Medicaid.
