The Top Florida Guard Officer Has COVID-19

ST. AUGUSTINE -- The head of the Florida National Guard has tested positive for COVID-19.

A Guard news release says Major General James Eifert, the guard's Adjutant General, learned of a possible exposure and went into quarantine more than two weeks ago. Eifert then developed symptoms and was told about his positive test result.

The guard says Eifert is consulting with his doctor to make sure he doesn't return to work until he's no longer contagious.

The Florida National Guard has been involved in testing more than a million Floridians for COVID. Eifert says his condition shows the importance of following guidelines to limit its spread.
