Hold on to your jockstraps, baseball fans…the prospect of baseball in 2020 isn’t a dead deal, yet. Major League Baseball has put together a new proposal they hope will get the sport moving forward again, and it’s now in the hands of the players. Here are the highlights of the new plan:

  • The season would be 76-games, plus the post-season.
  • Players would earn 75% of their prorated salaries.
  • The league wants to end the regular season by September 27thand wants the playoffs to be over by the end of October.
  • If a team loses a “top free agent” would “reap a compensatory draft pick.”
  • Those teams who sign a free agent wouldn’t have to give up a draft pick.

Word is that players and officials with the Players Union “quickly scoffed at the proposal.” Either way, players have until Wednesday to issue their response and retort. If this proposal doesn’t pan out, the league supposedly has a 48-game schedule they’re sitting back on. So, again, it’s not a dead deal, yet…but someone might want to look at getting the defibrillator paddles ready.
