A recent study by How Sociable found 20 acronyms have left thousands of individuals puzzled, searching for the definition online.
– SMH is the most confusing acronym, with 802,858 monthly searches — or 9 million searches a year. It means: ‘shaking my head.’
– TBH: ‘to be honest’
– POV: ‘point of view’
– NSFW: ‘not suitable for work’
– LMFAO: ‘laughing my [effing] ass off’
– OP: ‘original post’
– TTYL: ‘talk to you later’
– AFK: ‘away from keyboard’
– TL;DR: ‘too long; didn’t read’
– IIRC: ‘if I recall correctly’
– TFW: ‘that feeling when’
– FTW: ‘for the win’
– FWIW: ‘for what it’s worth’
– IMHO: ‘in my humble opinion’
– IRL: ‘in real life’
– TBT: ‘truth be told’
– TIL: ‘today I learned’
