A California high school senior becomes the first female in state history to score two touchdowns in a single varsity football game. Laguna Beach High School senior Bella Rasmussen has been interested in football since she was three-years-old. Her mom, Annette Rasmussen, says Bella grew up playing with her brother and cousin. “From the time she was walking, she was so physical and so tough," Annette says.
Bella started playing youth football when she was old enough and has played for Laguna Beach High’s team for all four years of high school. And she’s faced some pushback along the way, but the 18-year-old didn’t let that stop her from continuing playing the sport that she loves and proved all the naysayers wrong by setting a new record when she recently scored two touchdowns in a single game.
Only eight female players in California history have scored a touchdown in a varsity high school game and only Bella has achieved that second TD. At the time, it didn’t even occur to her that it was such a big deal. “I felt that I had just played a great game with some of my favorite people,” she says. When asked what the accomplishment means to her, Bella says she likes to think her younger self would be proud and she hopes that she can inspire other young girls, on and off the field. “I hope that it inspires other little girls who are wanting to do … anything that puts them out of their comfort zone.” she says. “I hope it puts them in a position to feel like they’re powerful enough to do it.”
