  • According to a new report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau:
  • In the U.S., 932,329 stolen vehicles were reported to law enforcement last year.
  • When it comes to overall thefts, Colorado leads the nation with 661.121 thefts per 100,000 people, up from 502.12 in 2020.
  • As for vehicle thefts by volume, California tops the list, with 200,524 vehicles stolen last year.

There are a lot of people out there who simply love their cars, but there are also plenty of people who want to get their hands on your car for various nefarious reasons. Getting your vehicle stolen can be devastating to some, and it turns out it's more likely to happen in some states than others.

According to a new report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau:

  • In the U.S., 932,329 stolen vehicles were reported to law enforcement last year.
  • That’s an increase of 6% from 2020, and an increase of 17% from 2019.
  • When it comes to overall thefts, Colorado leads the nation with 661.121 thefts per 100,000 people, up from 502.12 in 2020.
  • As for vehicle thefts by volume, California tops the list, with 200,524 vehicles stolen last year.
  • So many cars were stolen in California, that the number is over 100,000 more than the next closest state, Texas.
