Venus Williams may be a world-class tennis player, but when it comes to driving…not so much. Officials have declared that she is at fault in a wreck that took place in Florida on June 9th. That crash to the death of the passenger in the other car two weeks later.
According to the police report, Linda Barson – the driver of the other car – was approaching the intersection when Venus’ 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV darted in front of her. She claims that she didn’t have time to stop her 2016 Hyundai Accent in time and hit Venus’ car. Her husband, Jerome Barson, suffered head trauma. The 78-year-old was taken to the hospital and placed in ICU, where he died.
The cops are saying that Venus wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol and an electronic device didn’t distract her. But she did cause the crash because she violated the right of way of Mrs. Barton.
- Williams’ attorney, Malcolm Cunningham, said in a statement, “This is an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one.”
