Expedia’s 2017 Flip Flop Report reveals the most annoying beach behaviors

  • According to a Expedia.com’s 2017 Flip Flop Report, the person who drives American beachgoers the craziest is “The Slob,” who leaves garbage on the beach when they leave
  • "The Inattentive Parent,” who doesn’t watch their kids, comes in second with 52% of the vote
  • Americans prefer to stay in America for their beach vacations, with Florida, California and Hawaii among the most popular beach destinations 

Now that school is officially over, and the Independence Day weekend is here, a lot of people will be packing up the car and heading to the beach for some fun in the sun. Of course, there are some things that could put a damper on our beach vacations, and let’s face it, we're talking about our fellow beachgoers

So, what behavior annoys us the most? Well, according to a Expedia’s 2017 Flip Flop Report, the person who drives American beachgoers the craziest is “The Slob,” who leaves garbage on the beach when they leave. “The Slob” received 65% of the vote to top the list for a second year in a row, beating out “The Inattentive Parent,” who doesn’t watch their kids, who got 52%, although let's face it, they are equally annoying.

  5. The DJ – 45%
  6. The Encroacher – 45%

  10. The Ogler – 34%

Among the other survey findings:

  • Americans prefer to stay in America for their beach vacations, with Florida, California and Hawaii among the most popular beach destinations
  • The most popular beach attire for women is a swimsuit with cover up (38%), while for men it’s swim trunks with no top (53%)
  • 58% of beachgoers internationally say topless or nude sunbathers make them feel uncomfortable
  • 70% of women globally, and 71% of all global beachgoers, say they have never gone nude on a beach and would never do so
  • 70% of beachgoers list having something stolen as their biggest concern on a beach vacation, although 60% are worried about shark attacks
