Teen in a wheelchair after serious spinal injuries meets his goal to walk across the stage at his graduation.
When Lindbergh High School Water Polo captain Brad Bauer went to his graduation recently, he surprised everyone by walking across the stage to receive his diploma. The teen suffered serious spinal injuries when he dove into water on a spring break trip without knowing there was a sandbar underneath.
But after hard work and rehab, Bauer stood up from his wheelchair for his diploma and shocked friends and classmates by walking. “If he wants to do it, he’s going to do it,” says teammate Ethan Schnieder.
Bauer has gotten a lot of support from his team, coach, and community that helped him overcome his injuries and start moving again. He says walking across the stage was the only way he was going to receive his diploma and he made it happen.
