Over The Hump We Go!

The Bottom Line: Man who is paralyzed from the waist down uses a robotic exoskeleton to walk the last five miles of a marathon to raise awareness to the technology.

The Full Story:

After falling asleep at the wheel back in 2005, Adan Gorlitsky was in an accident that left him paralyzed. He’s has no feeling in his legs, but thanks to some cool technology he just ran in the Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, California.

Gorlitsky ran with the help of a machine called a Re-Walk Robotic Exoskeleton, which he describes like “the lower half of a Terminator suit.” When he moves his arms, and his hips push forward, the suit moves his legs for him. He walked for five hours in the Exoskeleton, finishing the last five miles of the race.

And he’s working hard to raise awareness and money for his foundation, I Got Legs - which helps others with paralysis walk again. “It’s a different kind of feeling when you’re walking but you’re not feeling the ground,” Gorlitsky says. “Just to be walking across the finish line with everybody it’s an amazing feeling.”
