A loaded gun was found in a students' backpack at Treasure Coast High School in Port St. Lucie.
15-year old D'Shawn Sears was arrested after a school resource officer found him and two other students walking onto campus during a parameter check.
After stopping the students, the officer smelled an odor of marijuana.
School leaders then performed a search of the student's backpacks, where they located a loaded .22 Taurus which was reported stolen in Indian River County in October of 2020.
Sears faces charges of possession of a firearm on school property, carrying a concealed firearm, and grand theft.
