Attorneys for a homeless drifter from Miami accused of killing a Palm Beach County teen have filed a motion in the case.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Semmie Williams Jr., who will stand trial in the murder of 14-year old Ryan Rogers.
The boy was riding his bike in Palm Beach Gardens last November when Williams is accused of stabbing him to death. Cops call it a chance encounter, saying the two had never met before that day.
According to recent court papers, Williams' attorneys have filed a motion to close the courtroom during his upcoming competency hearing.
The defense is arguing the man has a history of mental illness and is not fit to stand trial, despite being found competent by two experts last month.
After the hearing, a judge will make the ultimate decision.
