Florida sets COVID record on Christmas Day

Florida health officials reported the largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began on Christmas Day.

The CDC announced that Florida set a daily COVID case record with 32,850 new coronavirus cases on December 25th.

This breaks the record set just a day earlier when the state recorded 31,758 new cases.

The previous single-day highest number of cases was in August of 2021, when 27,802 cases were reported as the Delta variant surged through the state.

The recent spike in cases is due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
