Today is International Country Music Day

September 17, 2021

September 17th is International Country Music Day! This is a day designed to pay tribute to some of the world’s best country artists. Whether you’re a huge fan of the genre or not – fact is, much of what we enjoy today wouldn’t exist without country music.

Don’t believe us? Check out the heralded documentary series, “Country Music,” from Ken Burns. The series debuted at number six on the Music Video Sales chart the week of September 28, 2019, climbed to number one the following week – and stayed there for eleven consecutive weeks.

Country music, which was once referred to as country and western (and sometimes, still is) is a form of music whose roots come from old-time music and blues, as well as a number of different types of American folk music. And get this...there’s not just one flavor: there’s Tejano, Texas country, New Mexico country, Red Dirt country, Cajun, Appalachian, Bakersfield/California country...and the Nashville sound.
