COVID cases are up in Florida but the governor remains optimistic

Florida is reporting more than 55-hundred new coronavirus cases Thursday- the largest single day increase since August. Governor Ron DeSantis says it's important to stay focused on the big picture.

"The total number of patients being treated for COVID statewide in ICU's," Governor DeSantis says, "is the lowest it's been since the beginning of June- at the end of May."

Also on the plus-side- the governor says visits to ER's for COVID-like symptoms have been relatively stable.

"We had two weeks ago it had been going down and it kind of like stabilized and then just a hair went up and then last week it went back down and then my sense is so far this week it has been pretty much in keeping but these things- they'll bounce around to a certain extent."

Also the statewide positivity rate for new cases Thursday is at five-point-62-percent after it rose above six-percent over the two previous days.

The state also reported 57 recent fatalities on Thursday.
