NE Florida Sheriff Says He'll Deputize Gun Owners To Deal With Rioters

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL -- The sheriff of Clay County has a special warning for protesters who commit violent acts there.

"I'll make special deputies out of every lawful gun owner in this county... to stand in the gap between lawlessness and civility."

Sheriff Darryl Daniels, who's African-American, says somebody has to stand up and say "enough is enough." He says he and his deputies swore an oath to protect the county. He accuses Black Lives Matter, and the media covering protests after the George Floyd death, of being godless...saying "God is absent from the media's message or Black Lives Matter or any other group that's making themselves a spectacle."

Daniels, a Republican, is running for re-election and faces five opponents in the GOP primary, one of whom accused him of "vigilantism." Daniels is the subject of an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, reportedly now in the hands of prosecutors, involving claims that he ordered the arrest of his six-year girlfriend, after claiming she stalked him.
