Clay County Sheriff Vows To Deputize Citizens To Quell Riots

Clay County's sheriff has a warning for protesters who turn violent.

Sheriff Darryl Daniels released a video this week saying he and his deputies won't allow lawlessness and tearing up the county is unacceptable.

He also says if his office can't handle the protesters, he'll deputize every lawful gun owner in the county to stand in the gap between lawlessness and civility.

"If you threaten to come to Clay County, and think for one second that we'll bend our backs for you, you're sadly mistaken," Sheriff Darryl Daniels said in a three minute video while flanked by deputies. "You'll have something waitin' on you that you don't want."

Sheriff Daniels, who is black, called out the media and Black Lives Matter while saying, "Folks, don't fall victim to subjecting yourselves to this conversation that law enforcement is bad, that law enforcement is the enemy of the citizens that we're sworn to protect and serve."

Daniels says peaceful assembly is welcome, but lawlessness is not. Adding that law enforcement and citizens have a great relationship.
