Protests Underway in South Florida Demanding Justice For George Floyd

Update 8:45PM -- Miami-Dade authorities putting in place a countywide curfew beginning at 10 p.m.

Update 8:05PM -- Police are firing rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse crowds in Downtown Miami. Several cars have been set on fire, and several police vehicles have been damaged. There are massive crowds outside Miami Police headquarters with some demonstrators throwing water bottles at police.

Update 6:41PM -- The protest in Downtown Miami which started out peaceful, has now heated up a bit. Demonstrators are spray painting and otherwise damaging police cars and overhead highway signs as they march along I-95 in both directions blocking traffic.

Police are largely standing down. So far, there are no reports of any injuries.

A fireworks display which was to honor first responders and emergency workers dealing with the coronavirus pandemic is being postponed amid the protest.

Update 5:53PM -- What began as a peaceful protest has now made its way on to I-95. Thousands of protesters are marching Southbound in the Northbound lanes of I-95 in Downtown Miami. Traffic is at a standstill.

Demonstrators taking to the streets demanding justice for George Floyd who died at the hands of police this week. Hundreds of people gathering in Downtown Miami shouting "I can't breath" and "No justice, no peace" as they demand justice for Floyd who died while a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes. So far South Florida demonstrations have been largely peaceful.
