More Than 8,000 Backlogged Rape Kits Have Been Tested

A processing backlog of more than eight thousand sexual-assault kits cleared according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Attorney General Ashley Moody says it's significant.

A 2016 law put new timelines for law enforcement to submit the kits for testing.

The backlogged sexual assault kits started to be processed 3 years ago after more than 10,000 rape kits had gone untested leaving victims with no closure.

More than 1,800 DNA matches have been found, although not all of them will have action taken.
