Tampa Transit Buses Get Safety Barriers After Driver Stabbed to Death

TAMPA -- A custom-fit barrier with tempered glass will now separate transit bus drivers from passengers in Hillsborough County.

The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) agreed with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1593 to install those barriers on HART buses and vans.

ATU International Vice President Curtis Howard says the union thanks HART for listening to drivers.

HART has set aside $1 million toward the barrier project. Each installation will cost about $5000.

Driver Thomas Dunn was stabbed to death May 18th on Nebraska Avenue. 35 year old Justin McGriff faces a murder charge.
